Affaires Nomades

Affaires Nomades (Nomadic Things), comes from my fascination for the ever-changing moments of life. Although a home symbolizes stability, I want to explore the idea that it can also reflect change. Therefore, my work is about a search for decor, which reflects this ephemeral nature. I like small furniture so I can easily move it to where I think it is best suited at that given time. I like to work with fabrics that I can transform into cushions and pillowcases. I want a home that feels organic; it changes as the person who lives in it changes.

My collection called "Fragments" is centered on the concept of the "sham" of material — transforming linen to appear as denim or wool. When people handle my pillows, I watch for their moment of textile revelation.

I give my pillows a name, in order to make you find new associations. As in the case of paintings in a gallery, we're encouraged to consider something else besides the object before us.

Apart from nature, ruins and unfinished buildings appeal to me in particular. I like the feeling that we always have more room for our imagination.

Delirente

David Jushpe created the Delirante, a creative table design that portrays a beautiful chaos. Made for Morosof Furniture, the table is as delirious as its name implies. The Belgian designer explores spatial and material relationships with Delirante, emphasising on contrast and instability. As delirium manifests in a multitude of ways, each side of the Delirante table offers a different view. The table is fashioned out of solid oak top that is distressed for effect, then mounted on 4 millimetre brushed steel table legs. The legs look uneven in their unusual arrangement, giving the viewer a feeling of imbalance and uncertainty. Each side of the table exhibits a new combination of angles, and effectively, different perspectives. More information about the Delirante Collection is available on Morosof Furniture.

Plumbing Lights

MESH pipe lights use "frosted, incandescent, tubular bulbs that protrude like illuminated metallic branches", and "the light casts a soft, warm glow not unlike candle light". The fixtures are switched and dimmed by touching the light itself.

Here's from the designers:

"Founded in 1997 MESH Architectures is a hybrid architectural practice, re-conceiving relationships between people and their environments in the age of the digital network.
MESH is known for innovative home, retail, installation and Web design. Based in New York City, many of our projects are renovations where we integrate contemporary materials and techniques into old structures. Created by MESH principal Eric Liftin, our signature pipe-lights assembled from standard cast-iron fittings are a perfect example of this approach: they offer a look that is both contemporary and traditional, hi-tech and rustic, complementing both new and remodeled spaces. MESH pipe-lights available in various formats, come in rough iron, galvanized, stainless steel and aluminum. With over a decade of experience in residential and commercial design, site-specific lighting installations are also our specialty."

Hayvenhurst House Remodel by Dan Brunn

Price, speed and quality are always the key elements to a design project. Whether it be a remodel or a ground up project, we are always striving for the perfect equilibrium. Here, we started with an existing ranch style house in the Encino Hills and within 6 months we completed design, permitting and construction. The end result is what feels like a brand new house, all while staying within our client’s budget.

The house now has open plan, revolving around an existing fireplace chimney. Most of the partition walls have been removed thus allowing for free flow, light and air circulation. With the free plan, one could open the multi pivot glass wall on the den side of the house and the sliding windows on the living room side and enjoy a refreshing breeze, without the need to run the air-conditioning unit in the summer months.

Since we believe that the kitchen is the soul and heart of a house, we have incorporated it onto the length of the house, creating a “storage wall”, spanning from the living room all the way to the dining room. At each portion of the house, the proportions and accommodations change to fit the space, while maintaing a homogenous look, the unit ties the space together and gives an appearance of grandeur. The expansive kitchen island is also a key element, anchored to the chimney, always accessible for preparation and for entertaining.

In addition to the free flow of the house, we have also spent quite a bit of time in material and product research. To keep within the budget and speed, we looked into alternative means to achieve the design goals we always strive for. This meant spending a lot of time with the contractor, fabricators and suppliers to come up with creative solutions. Specifically, we used all new window & door systems, stone and wood coverings and incorporated off the shelf cabinetry, all to create a seamless, fresh and inviting design.
